Proclamation - Dedicating the William L. Jowett Memorial Rain Garden/Bioswale

Whereas, William "Bill" Jowett was born and raised in St. Clair County and was a lifetime public servant and a tireless advocate for the people he served: and Whereas, Bill graduated from Port Huron High School in 1952. He attended Port Huron Junior College for 2 years and served in the U.S. Army in Germany. Bill graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1957. He was a longtime Port Huron area Funeral Director and was the former St. Clair County Coroner from 1958 to 1962, and a 55 year funeral director licensee. He was a multi-client government consultant from 1980 until retiring in 2006; and Whereas, Bill was elected into the Michigan House of Representatives in 1966. Bill Jowett represented the people of the City of Port Huron and St. Clair County in the House of Representatives for 14 years; and Whereas, Bill Jowett served on the Appropriations Committee and worked diligently to secure essential funding for the St. Clair County Community College and other public projects in our district. Now, Therefore, be it proclaimed that the St. Clair County Board of Commissioners, on behalf of its citizens, does hereby dedicate the rain garden/bioswale located at Merchant and McMorran Boulevard in the City of Port Huron as "William L. Jowett Memorial Rain Garden/Bioswale" for Bill's devotion and public service to the citizens of St. Clair County.

    Alan R. Jowett, Owner and Funeral Director

    Alan was born and raised in Port Huron. He attended Port Huron Area Schools. He graduated from Port Huron Northern High School in 1977, St. Clair County Community College in 1979 and Wayne State University School of Mortuary Science in 1980.Alan is a member of the Moose Lodge #158, Port Huron Masonic Lodge #58 and a member of the Wadhams Lions Club. Alan and his wife Terry reside in Port Huron.

  • Kenneth  L. White

    Kenneth L. White, Licensed Funeral Director

    Ken graduated from Marysville High School in 1962 and attended Port Huron Junior College. He graduated from The Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1968. He worked at the former Hubert V. Lucas Funeral Home for 15 years, as well as the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes in Trenton and Allen Park, retiring as manager, after 25 years of service. Ken is national and state certified. He is a member of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association and has been awarded as a 40 year licensee.Ken is Past President of the Trenton Lions Club, Past President of the Woodhaven Rotary Club and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He served as President of the prestigious organization 25-4-52 Club of Trenton. He is an honorary Life Member of the National Sheriff's Association, a Life Member of Smiths Creek Lodge #491 and a member of the Port Huron Golf Club.Ken married the late, Kay Ann Kells and has two daughters; Holly (Taylor) Rowland and Katie White.

  • Terry Trottier-Jowett

    Terry Trottier-Jowett, Administration

    Terry graduated from Fraser High School in 1981. She attended Macomb County Community College. Before joining the staff at Jowett Funeral Home, she was employed with a healthcare provider, as an Adminstrative Assistant.Terry has two children- Amanda Craven and Kevin (K.C.) Craven. She is secretary for the Wadhams Lions Club, past board member of Port Huron Minor Hockey Association, Kaleidoscope Gymnastic Club and Warren Hockey Association.Terry knows that being attentive to the needs of families is an important part of the funeral service and understands that lives are changed dramatically when a loved one passes away.Terry is married to Alan. She enjoys time with her family and friends, reading and being in the outdoors.

  • Nick  Jowett

    Nick Jowett, Funeral Assistant

    Nick grew up in the funeral business. He is the son of the owner, Alan Jowett.Nick attended Port Huron High School, graduating in 2007. He then attended St. Clair County Community College, completing his pre-requirements for mortuary school. Nick graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mortuary Science in 2014. Nick currently resides in Port Huron.Nick enjoys playing golf and hockey.

  • Andrew  Jowett

    Andrew Jowett, Funeral Assistant

    Andrew grew up in the funeral business. Andrew is the son of owner, Alan Jowett. Andrew graduated from Port Huron High School in 2009 and St. Clair County Community College. He graduated from Wayne State University in 2015 with a degree in Marketing.Andrew enjoys hockey, photography and boating.

  • Shaun Laurain

    Shaun Laurain, Funeral Assistant

    Shaun graduated from Marysville High School in 1998. He was employed by Edwin Paul Spa, in Grosse Pointe for 4 years as a massage therapist. He also worked as a server at the Marysville Big Boy.Shaun is a very caring and compassionate person. Shaun enjoys music, movies and spending time with his wife and daughters.

  • Donna Galbraith

    Donna Galbraith, Funeral Assistant

    Donna graduated from Yale High School in 1961. After graduating high school, Donna went on to Central Michigan University where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree and a secondary teaching certificate in 1965. She taught school for several years before she started working in foster care and adoption for Child and Family Services. After working 15 years, Donna returned to school and earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Michigan State University in 1989. She accepted a School Social work position in the East China School District and was employed there for 20 years.Donna lives in Fort Gratiot and has four children, Reneé Mason, Randy Galbraith, Shane Galbraith and Marnie Rossow. In 1989 Donna formed The International Ballet Theatre with a friend, Gerry Schultz. They created and produced The Nutcracker Ballet annually for the community for 13 consecutive years. In her spare time, Donna loves to read, paint, spend time with her grandchildren, and socialize with dear friends. Donna enjoys working at the Jowett Funeral Home because it allows her to be available to the people of the community.

  • Cathy Fahley

    Cathy Fahley, Funeral Assistant

    Cathy was born and raised in the Goodells area and graduated from Yale High School. She is a Registered Dental Hygienist, for the past 24 years.She enjoys watching her grandson play baseball and spending time with her family and friends. Cathy and her husband, Ed, reside in the Emmett area, where they own a farm.

  • Kendall Gieleghem

    Kendall Gieleghem, Funeral Assistant

    Kendall graduated Yale High School in 2019. She serves as a volunteer firefighter in her town and works as an EMT for a local company.She enjoys reading, camping, and being outdoors, especially with her two dogs. She married her high school sweetheart, Brandon, in December of 2023.

  • Lynne Santini

    Lynne Santini, Funeral Assistant

    Lynne graduated Groves High school in Birmingham, in 1978. She taught, trained, and showed horses.On her free time she likes fishing, bird watching, photography, reading, and enjoys shooting on a pool league with her husband, Michael.

  • June Fraley

    June Fraley, Funeral Assistant

    June is a wife of 30 years, to her best friend, Steve. She is a mom to four adult children and a grandma to eight beautiful grandkids. She happily resides in Marysville for the last 28 years. Some of her favorite things to do include spending time with her grandkids and watching them partake in their favorite activities. Michigan summers are also one of her favorites. June loves working at Jowett Funeral Home and being able to put a smile on someone's face during some of the hardest moments of their lives, that's what makes the job so rewarding.
