Theresa M. Diaz - Gonzales

Theresa Mary Diaz-Gonzales, age 87 of Fort Gratiot, passed away June 24, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born August 22, 1936 in Port Huron to the late Juan and Manuela Diaz. She married Jose Gonzales on November 14, 1953 in Marysville at St. Christopher Catholic Church. Theresa was a devoted military spouse to her husband throughout his career. This gave them the ability to travel the world and live in France and Puerto Rico. She was a strong and independent woman who finished her high school diploma from Jefferson Adult Learning Center. She enjoyed playing penny bingo on Fridays and going to the casino to play those penny slots. Theresa worked many years at St Clair County Community College daycare center. Her love for children continued long after retirement as she volunteered for the Foster Grandparent Program. Theresa was also a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans Auxiliary and Port Huron Senior Center. She was a devote catholic, attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission and a current member of St. Mary Catholic Community. Theresa is survived by her family: Maria Manuela Gonzales (Eric Reed); Lea C. Gonzales-Bier (James J. Bier); Carolina Isabel Gonzales; Manuel B. Gonzales. Grandchildren: Theresa M. (Jason) Zimmerman; Matthew J. (Nicole) Gonzales; Marisa Ann (Brandon) McNamee, Antonia Maria Gonzales, David Frontera, Zara Dane, Shepherd Gonzales. Great Grandchildren: Jason H. Zimmerman II, Kassidy Ann Kavanagh, Madison J. Zimmerman, MacKenzie R. Zimmerman, Rory John McNamee, Alejandra Teresa McNamee, brother, John Diaz and sister-in-law, Perryetta Diaz. Preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Jose Gonzales; son, Jose Pilar Gonzales, in-laws, Jose P. Gonzales and Maria Lopez-Gonzales; siblings: Juanita Almendarez, Ruth (Felipe) Chavez, Esther Ledesma, Jose Guadalupe Diaz, Angelus (Lily) Diaz and Jesse (Ruthann) Diaz Sr., and sister-in-law, Nancy Diaz Mass of Resurrection will be on Friday – June 28, 2024 at 11:00am in St. Mary Catholic Community – 1505 Ballentine St., Port Huron. Father Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate. The burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday – June 27, 2024 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm in the Jowett Funeral Home – 1634 Lapeer Ave., Port Huron, and again on Friday from 10:00am until time of Mass, at church.
