Shirley A. Trosin

Our dear mother, Shirley Ann Trosin, was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, cousin, aunt and friend. She went to be with our Lord and Savior on the 8th day of June 2021 at the wonderful age of 90. She has finished the race. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 She was born to the late Louis and Burnetta Bourassa on March 15, 1931, in the family farmhouse where “Our Lady of the Woods Catholic Church” now stands in Woodhaven. Shirley graduated from Slocum-Truax High School in Trenton in 1950. She went on to marry Richard Trosin (1922-2004) of Romulus. They settled in Romulus on a family farm property now part of the Detroit Metropolitan Airport on Eureka Rd. Some of the things Shirley loved to do included horseback riding, bowling, swimming, water skiing, roller skating, playing her Lowrey organ, playing clarinet, sewing, singing, dancing, crocheting afghans for many, riding motorcycle (yes, she wore a leather jacket!), watching movies of Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire and Shirley Temple, wearing pink lipstick :), listening to Big Band and Country music; she especially liked Alan Jackson and Vince Gill’s Christian Country vibes. She was also certified as a Red Cross lifeguard. She was an entrepreneurial and very hard working businesswoman in her day. She planted huge gardens and managed a vegetable stand in which she sold her vegetables, fresh baked bread and her beautifully decorated cakes that included fancy doll cakes. She also sold fresh chickens and eggs to help support the family. Shirley always had a full pantry of canned goods put up for the Michigan winters to help keep her family well fed. In the 1960’s, with the building help of Richard, she started and ran a local dog kennel business in Romulus named “Maria Trosono Kennel”, and also enjoyed breeding and selling purebred German Shepherd puppies. Some of her dogs were shown at dog shows held at Greenfield Village and earned various ribbons in show. Shirley maintained her strong Catholic faith and was a true believer in the Cross. She prayed her rosary as long as she was able. She absolutely loved listening to Mother Angelica and Father Corapi in her convalescence. She will be remembered for her kindness, contagious laughter, and beautiful smile. Mom would say that she was blessed with 7 children. She is survived by all her children; Cynthia Trosin, D.O. (Karl Emerick, D.O.) of New Baltimore, Theron Trosin of Lincoln Park, Maryann Orme (Jerry) of Romulus, Ann Reeck (Roy) of Trenton, David Trosin (Vicky Buska) of Swanton, OH, Margaret Williams (Bradley) of Gainesville, GA, and Rose Hetrick (Charles) of Flat Rock. Shirley was also blessed with 18 grandchildren; 3 of whom preceded her in passing: Andy Jay Orme (1975-2009), Karl Jon Emerick (1985-2012) and Kellie Marie Trosin (1979-2020). The others are as follows; Randy Orme (Shannon), Eric Dunaway (Carol), Ryan Dunaway (Bobbie Johnson), Jennifer Osmulski, Michael Dunaway (Mary Kranz), Amanda Foster (Richard), Danielle Ramkhelawan (Isaiah), Lauren Emerick, Marc Williams (Lauren), Scott Williams, Lindsay Webb (Billy), Camron Quednau, Christian Trosin and Cody and Parker Hetrick. She was blessed as well with 18 great grandchildren: Laura Dunaway, Jacob Dunaway, Priscilla Dunaway, Raymond Dunaway, Aiden Dunaway¸ Corvin Dunaway, Elliana Dunaway, Evan Orme, Jordan Read (Cody), Melanie Osmulski, Sydney Osmulski, Carson Osmulski, Ava Orme, Hallie Foster, Levi Foster, Billie-Jean Foster, Josephine Ramkhelawan and Sophia Webb. Blessings continued with 3 great great grandchildren; Abel Read, Oliver Read and Micah Read. She is survived by a sister, Beverly (Joseph) Scheffler-Laboe and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her siblings; Louis Jr. (Virginia), Warren (Jean), Bernadette (Butch Booth), Robert (Gloria), and Elaine, brother-in-law, Harley Scheffler, and former husband, Richard Trosin. Graveside services will be held at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery, in Flat Rock, at a later date.
