Richard "Dick" H. Darling Sr.

Richard H. “Dick” Darling Sr., age 91, of Port Huron Township passed away on June 4, 2022, with his family by his side. He was born on June 28, 1930 in Goodells to the late Ross and Nina Mae Darling. He married Janie P. Driggers on May 16, 1990 in Las Vegas, Nevada and served honorably in the United States Navy. Richard was the owner/operator of R. Darling Construction in which he built over 200 homes. He also owned; Arena Garden Roller Rink, Vow Inn Reception Hall, Floodwater Supperclub in Hillman, MI., Darlings Motor Lodge, Darlings Huron Inn Motel, Skate Port Roller Rink, Sea Port Party Store, Sharon Inn Reception Hall, Beefalo Hut, Mini Inn Restaurant, American Trophy, Dick’s Signs, Arbor Tree Service, and Skate Port 2 Roller Rink. He is a member of the American Legion and a former member of the Optimist Club and the Elks. Dick also enjoyed traveling and going to car races. Dick is survived by his wife, Janie P. Darling; son, Rick Darling (Debby); daughter, Bambi Markie (Jamie); grandsons; Zachary Markie, Ian Markie, and Drew Darling (Megan); granddaughter, Muray Magin (Stephen); great-grandson, Miles Darling; great-granddaughter, Freya Magin; niece, Debbie Hillock; nephews, Dan Darling, Steve Saunders and Darrell Saunders; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Nina Mae Darling, brother; Eldon Darling, sister; Lorraine Cote; and babies, B. Jayne, Ross David, and Kevin Lee. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 15 at 11:00am in Jowett Funeral Home 1634 Lapeer Avenue, Port Huron. Minister Shaun Laurain will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm in the funeral home and from 10:00am on Wednesday until time of service. Pallbearers will be Zachary Markie, Ian Markie, Drew Darling, Stephen Magin, Wayne Darling, and Dan Darling. Honorary pallbearer, Dennis Fraiser.
