Donna Jean Harris

Donna Jean Harris, age 92, of Port Huron, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2018. She was born on July 29, 1926, in Port Huron, to the late Joseph and Florence Thomas. Donna married George E. “Bud” Harris on January 11, 1947, in Port Huron. They were happily married for 70 years. George passed away on September 19, 2016. She was a longtime landlord in the Port Huron Area. Donna enjoyed gardening and decorating for the holidays. She also loved going to church at Gratiot park; and was actively involved. She was instrumental in getting the church registered as a Michigan Historical building and purchased the historical marker for the church. Donna worked in her flower gardens singing the whole time. The City of Port Huron awarded her “Yard of the Year” for her efforts, in addition to the “Good Neighbor” award. She spent many hours in the cold ice rinks with her children, Terry, Sherry and Sandy. Donna loved children, she seemed to have a natural connection with them. She continued to sponsor the Girl Scouts by sending girls to camp every summer. She loved the theater, musicals and was a long-time supporter of Port Huron Little Theater. Donna is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Terry (Cheryl) Harris of Fort Gratiot, daughter, Sheryl MacLean of Fort Gratiot, daughter and son-in-law, Sandra (Randy) McPherson of Port Huron, six grandchildren, Jason Harris, Jeffrey (Sheila) Harris, Shaun MacLean (Melissa), Kari Bonin (Dave), Todd MacLean and Kyle (Tami) Reid, 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Thomas “Butch” (Dorothy) Harris, sister-in-law, Judy Harris of Fort Gratiot and special friends, Jan (Ron) Sanford of Port Huron. The family would also like to thank Christine Nobel of Fort Gratiot for her loving and gentle care. Funeral Services have taken place in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Avenue, Port Huron. Pastor Don Sperling officiated. Burial took place in Lakeside Cemetery. Jowett Funeral Home is privileged to assist the family in arrangements.
