David A. Koester

David A. Koester, age 76, of Sandusky stepped into the glory on July 3, 2026. He was born March 7, 1950, in Toledo, Ohio and was the son of the late Rollie and Grace (Gottschalk) Koester. Dave spent most of his childhood in Fenton, Michigan. He was a graduate of Fenton High School, class of 1968 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University and remained a proud and loyal Spartan for the rest of his life. Dave’s faith in Jesus was the foundation of his life. He attended Countryside Fee Methodist Church where he found encouragement, fellowship, and a church family that meant so much to him. His favorite Bible verse was John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” He had lifelong passion for men’s softball and spent many years on the field enjoying the game and the friendships it brought. Off the field, he rarely missed an opportunity to play a game of cards, attend sporting events, or theatre productions for his many grandchildren, or just make people laugh. Dave was a lifelong entrepreneur, building his career through hard work, determination, and an unshakeable optimism that carried him through every venture he took on. But those who knew him best would say his greatest achievements were found not in business, but in the way he lived. His warm personality and joyful spirit made everyone around him feel welcomed. His greatest legacy is the family he cherished and the countless lives he brightened simply by being himself. He is survived by Kris, his loving and devoted wife of 40 years. Their love and partnership was the anchor of his life, and he cherished her deeply every day of their marriage. Dave is also survived by six children, Carrie (Kyle) Gerrild, Paul (Merredith) McDevitt, Mark Koester, Chris (Jill) McDevitt, Angi (Jason) Spees and Mike (Christina) McDevitt, twenty-one grandchildren, four great grandchildren, siblings, Rick, Karis, Sandy, Patti and Jim. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Rollie and Grace and his brother Mike. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. at Countryside Free Methodist Church on Sunday, July 12, 2026, in Sandusky, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Countryside Free Methodist Church or United Hospice Service in Marlette, Mi for assisting in his peaceful passing.
