Carol J. King

Carol Jane King was welcomed into the arms of her lord and savior on July 27th, 2024. Carol was born into a loving home of which she was one of five children. Carol was the first child born to her mother Eva Schmude. She has been reunited with her siblings; Dave Hastings, Sue Brown, Dennis Carlson, Dick Somerville, Bud Somerville, and Ricky Somerville. As well as the love of her life William King, and of course her beloved mother. Carol began her life in the year 1935 in a small home in Port Huron, Michigan. She spent her days going to church service with her mother and taking up numerous hobbies including sewing which she continued to enjoy throughout her life. Carol attended Port Huron High School and graduated class of 1953. In early adulthood she met David Peterson whom she married and fathered her sons and daughter; Bret (Patty) Peterson, Brenda Kerrigan, and Bryan Peterson. During her adulthood she was a cashier at a grocery store until becoming a payroll clerk at Aunt Jane’s pickle factory. In her later life she would spend many hours volunteering at Desmond landings maritime center announcing boats and helping guests. Carol always took pride in her work regardless of the task at hand. Carol was passionate about music and gospel throughout her life. This brought her close to William King whom she would marry in 1987 and would only part when he died in 2009. During the longevity of their marriage, they had raised a special grandson Edward Skelly. They also welcomed grandchildren; Heather, Jennifer, Brandon, Garrett, Angel, and Alana. Carol was known in the Church and always at the Jamboree where she played piano, and Bill played the violin. She was an avid sewer, crocheted often, and enjoyed crafting given the opportunity. She loved making things for others, and seeing her gifts make people happy was all the reward she needed. Carol loved spending time with her family and enjoyed watching the children in the family grow and thrive. She spent summer days with her grandchildren at the lake, long evenings spending time with her special niece and nephew Camryn & Nathan Sparschu, and most recently-crafting and sitting outdoors with her great granddaughter, Gabriella. These were cherished times which brought her the most joy. Funeral services will be held on Thursday - August 1, 2024 at 1:00pm in the Jowett Funeral Home 1634 Lapeer Ave., Port Huron. Minister Shaun Laurain will officiate. The visitation will be from 11:00am until time of funeral at 1:00pm. Burial will be in Lexington Municipal Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
