John E. D. Shomaker

March 5, 1949 - January 20, 2022

John Edward Delvin Shomaker, age, 72, of Capac died January 20, 2022. He was awarded the National Defense Service medal, the Vietnam Service medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the R.P. Presidential Unit Citation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Sea Service Deployment ribbon, the Battle “E” Award and the Navy Unit Commendation. John was born on March 5, 1949, in Newark, OH to the late William and Marjorie Shomaker. He joined the navy in 1969 and served on the USS Rupertus and the John Paul Jones until 1982. During his station in the Philippines, he adopted Teodora Navidad ( Doris Shomaker). He married Bernardita Hall in 1988 and became a stepfather to Bernard, Eric and Holly Hall. During the following years, they then welcomed Michael, Margaret, John, Joseph, and William. He is survived by his wife, Bernardita and 5 children; Michael (Jacinta) Shomaker, Margaret Shomaker, John Shomaker Jr., Joseph Shomaker and William (Tiffany) Shomaker; 4 grandchildren; Connor Uyttenhove, Harper Uyttenhove, Alice Shomaker and Jude Shomaker; sisters; Marvine Shomaker, Mary (Tom) Lewis, Marjorie Shomaker, Martha (Joe) Bennett and Margret Francis (Donald) Driver; brothers; Robert (Becky) Shomaker and Allen Kevin Shomaker along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Delvin Shomaker and Marjorie Marvine Franklin; and brothers, Timothy and William Shomaker. A viewing will take place at St. Joseph’s Church, 57575 Romeo Plank Rd in Ray Township from 9:00am until 10:00am on Friday, January 28, 2022 with a burial immediately following at Lakeside Cemetery in Port Huron. The service will be officiated by Father Kimball. Flowers and donations may be sent to St. Joseph’s Church. St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard and the United States Navy will conduct military honors. Arrangements are in the care of the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave, Port Huron.
