Karen unexpected departed this life in December 1984 and Jim found himself a single father with young children. Jim left real estate and began a career as a self-employed handyman eventually honing his skills in the ceramic tile and marble field. He took great pride in the work he did. He passed his tiling skills on to his son Jamie and grandsons Kyle and James. Jim retired from tile work, and he enjoyed tinkering with small engine repair. Jim was a strong, kind, loving, gentle man who always put family first. His knowledge and guidance were the foundation of his family.
