Arlene J. Olney

October 26, 1936 - April 30, 2022

Arlene J. Olney, age 85, of Fort Gratiot, entered into eternal life on April 30, 2022 after a long illness. She was born on October 26, 1936 in Detroit to the late Irving and Eleanor Johns. Arlene married William Olney on June 11, 1955 at St. Joseph Church. Bill and Arlene were members of the Elk’s Club and American Legion Dance Club and she performed in the Elk’s Variety Shows for several years. She graduated from St. Stephens High School and went on to her first job as a Switchboard Operator for Bell Telephone. Arlene also worked in sales at Sperry’s Department Store and was the Secretary for SCC Board of Realtors. She belonged to Woodman of the World Ladies Auxiliary and was also the Secretary for Mueller Brass Company for several years. Arlene did many great things in life, performing on a radio show as a teenager, taking part in the Port Huron Little Theater at McMorran for many years, singing in the church choirs at Holy Cross and Colonial Woods in Port Huron, being a wedding singer for many years in the St. Clair County Area and going on to win second place on Stairway to the Stars talent show, for her singing talent. Arlene won a scholarship to Interlocken Music camp when she was 17 and also taught voice lessons to many over the years. On top of having a beautiful singing voice, Arlene also loved playing the piano and organ and enjoyed entertaining at her home with her amazing talents as well as performing for the residents of many nursing homes. Arlene also enjoyed baking wedding cakes for family and friends. She is survived by her husband, William Olney, siblings, Michael (Billie) Johns, Christine (Robert) Peat, Kathy (Gary) Miller, and Mary (Jerry) Adkins; nieces and nephews, Kim (Dan) McKenzie, Walter (Mary) Olney, Wade (Tricia) Miller, Jay (Annie) Adkins, Heidi (Dan) Russell, George (Tiana) Gunn and Jenny Miller along with several great nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert, Pat and Eddie Johns. A celebration of life will be held 12:00pm Saturday, June 18, 2022 in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Avenue, Port Huron. Visitation will take place an hour prior to services.
