Mr. William Leo Jowett

William Leo Jowett, age 78, of Grand Ledge, formerly of Lansing and Port Huron, passed away on August 13, 2012, in the Sparrow Hospice House of Mid Michigan, Lansing. Bill was born on February 7, 1934 in Marysville. He married Jean Fuller on June 23, 1990 in Lansing. He is the son of the late Leo and Edith Jowett. Bill graduated from Port Huron High School in 1952 and was Class President. He attended Port Huron Junior College for 2 years. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1957. He was a longtime Port Huron area Funeral Director and was the former St. Clair County Coroner, a former member of the M.F.D.A. and N.F.D.A. and 55 year funeral director licensee. He was elected into the Michigan House of Representatives in 1965 and served there for 14 years. He was a multi-client government consultant from 1980 until retiring in 2006. Bill was a former member of the University Club, Past President of the Lansing City Club and a member of the Eagles. He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, dancing, traveling and Euchre. He is survived by his loving wife, L. Jean Jowett of Grand Ledge, children; Bethany (Pat) Lietaert of Grayling, William L. Jowett, Jr. of Beulah, Alan (Terry) Jowett of Marysville, Gaylord (Stephanie) Jowett of Frankfort, Steven (Jennifer) of Lansing, step-children; Lori (Rich) Studley of Grand Ledge and Scott E. Fuller of DeWitt, twin sister; Betty (George) Pake of Rapid City, sister; Pat Flewelling of Tampa, Florida, Grandchildren; Adam, Aaron, Heather, Amy, Danielle, Nick, Andrew, Amanda, K.C., Bill, Weston, Owen, Ethan, Jessie, Rachel, Kalie and Ryan, several great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, sister-in-law; Lois Finkbeiner, special friend; Jerry Brown, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Riske, granddaughter, Alana Jowett and brother-in-law; Richard Flewelling. Funeral services will be: Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 11:30am in the Holihan–Atkin Funeral Home – 406 N. Bridge Street, Grand Ledge. Mary Ann Stackpoole will officiate. Burial will be in Delta Center Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday, August 16, 2012 in the Jowett Funeral Home – 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. Port Huron from 2:00pm – 8:00pm and Friday, August 17, 2012 in the Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home – 406 N. Bridge Street Grand Ledge, from 2:00pm – 8:00pm, and again Saturday from 10:00am until time of service Pallbearers will be; Scott Fuller, Jerry Brown, Nick Jowett, Andrew Jowett, Rich Studley and Ryan Studley. Honorary Pallbearers will be; George Pake, Ken White, Jim Hadden, Bill Kandler and Ray Underwood. Memorial tributes can be made to Sparrow Hospice.
