Ronald A. Giles

On Monday, December 7, 2020, while under hospice care at McLaren Hospital Port Huron, MI, Ronald A. Giles was welcomed into his eternal, heavenly home. Ron was a gentle, kind man who loved and trusted God throughout his life. Ron was born to the late Guy and Beatrice Giles in Niagara Fall, NY on February 9,1929. The family moved to Port Huron in the mid-1930’s where Guy worked and retired as Assistant Manager of Acheson Colloids. On September 16, 1950, Ron drove his bride, Mildred “Millie” L. Pratt, to Toledo, OH, where the couple eloped and then spent the next 70 years in a devoted marriage. The couple proudly raised their only son David Alan. Employed at the Detroit Edison in Marketing for 41 years, Ron met many wonderful families. Ron coached and supported Dave’s many athletic events and taught both his son and grandson, Jeff, the skills of hunting deer, rabbits, and pheasants. Ron played volleyball at the YMCA and slow-pitch baseball for many years on the Detroit Edison teams. He also played golf up until the last 3 years with Edison retirees. He had a passion for the beauty of God’s creation. In all of Ron’s endeavors, he carried the mantle of a Godly man. He was an Elder and Pastor at both the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Varney Street, Pt. Huron and the Pt. Huron/Sarnia Restoration Branch on Garfield Street, Pt. Huron. He also served in Hospital Ministry – always ready to go at any time, day or night, for members or non-members. He enjoyed many years serving the Lord. Ron will be dearly missed by his devoted, selfless wife, Millie, and his son David “Dave” (Joyce) Giles. A granddaughter Jenny Giles- (Chris) Voss, and grandson, Jeffrey (Danielle) Giles, his 4 great-granddaughters “sweeties” Claire & Paige Voss and Madelynn & Paisley Giles. Due to Covid-19, a private family service will take place on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at 1:00pm at Jowett Funeral Home,1634 Lapeer Avenue, Port Huron officiated by his son, Elder Dave Giles. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. Ron’s grandchildren will carry his casket to its final resting place. For those who would like to pay respect and honor Ron with a wave, the Giles’ family invites you to “Drive-thru visitation” at Lakeside Cemetery on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, between 3:00 – 3:30pm. Please enter the cemetery off Holland Avenue at 10th Avenue. Should friends desire, memorial donations to Ron’s church, Pt.
