Mr. Robert Lee Forbes

Robert Lee Forbes, 65, of Port Huron, went home to the Lord Saturday, September 14, 2013 after a long battle with Pancreatic Cancer, at home with his family by his side. Robert was born July 2, 1948 in Port Huron, Mich to the late Robert W. Forbes and late Jean (Holcomb) Forbes. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Maureen (Walsh) Forbes; Son Robert (Bridget) Forbes; daughter Amy Wright and Brad Wright; Brother David (Mary) Forbes, nephew John (Jamie) Forbes; Grandchildren: Andrea Caraher; Joseph Carrasco; Aaron Carrasco; Brooke Wright; Connor Forbes; Dayton Wright; Mother-in-law Margaret Walsh & Father in Law the late George L. Walsh Sr.; Brothers-in-law: George Jr. (Cheri) Walsh, nephew Stephen (Sara ) Walsh, nieces Melissa and Angela Walsh; and John (Kerry) Walsh, nephews Kyle and Cody Walsh; Sisters-in-Law: Tricia Birmingham, nephews Ronald and Anthony Bevilaqua; Katherine (Donald) Gaca, niece Erica (Charles) Busch, nephews Jason & Eric Gaca; Deborah Smalstig, niece Paula (Frank) Shuler, nephew David (Beth) Smalstig; Diana (Donald) Dove, nephew Jeremy Dove; many other Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Dear Friends. Robert attended Port Huron High School graduating in 1966. He attended St. Clair County Community College for a year, then after starting a job at Grand Trunk Rail Road in 1967, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as an 101st Airborne Infantryman during the Vietnam War. Robert returned to Port Huron after his service and finished a career as a Conductor for the Grand Trunk/CN Railroad, retiring in 2008 after over 41 years of service. Robert was a member of the Port Huron Moose Lodge, Port Huron Eagles Club, VFW Post 3735 Oscoda & Port Huron American Legion where he spent much time with those associations and their various causes. Robert was an avid Hunter, Fisherman and Outdoorsman, spending many hours in the outdoors with family and friends. He was a fan of Michigan Football, the Detroit Tigers, and the Detroit Lions. He enjoyed his time at the family cabin in Oscoda, Michigan, where years of holidays, vacations and hunting camps were enjoyed by many. Several friends & family have credited him for being an inspiration to enjoying the outdoors and hunting lifestyle. Robert was also an avid cook and was well known for inviting family and friends over to enjoy wild game or just burgers in the backyard. Funeral Services will be held 12:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. @ 17th Street, Port Huron. Rev. Robert Chapman will officiate. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial tributes may be made to the family for Pancreatic Research, Salvation Army or the St. Clair Allied Veterans Council. St. Clair County Allied Veterans will conduct Military Honors.
