Robert "Bob" C. Cook

Robert Charles "Cookie" Cook, 69, passed away on February 19, 2025, in Avoca, Michigan. Born on June 19, 1955, in Port Huron, Michigan, Robert lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends and career. Robert AKA Bob, pursued higher education with determination, earning his bachelor's degree from Walsh College before completing a master's degree in business from Central University. His professional journey spanned two successful careers at Bundy/TI Automotive and Aludyne Manufacturing. Throughout his years in the workforce, he formed lasting friendships and credited his colleagues for much of his success. He often expressed gratitude for their intelligence, work ethic, dedication and support. A proud veteran, Bob served in the U.S. Navy, where he was first stationed in Hawaii before being transferred to the military base in Norfolk, Virginia. It was during his time in the service that he earned the beloved nickname "Cookie," a name he carried with pride. His brother Tim, who served in the Marine Corps, also shared this nickname—a testament to their strong family bond. Faith played an important role in Bob's life. Raised Catholic, he attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Port Huron from third through eighth grade. His school days often began with Mass as part of the curriculum. He was an altar boy and once considered becoming a missionary. His faith remained steadfast throughout his life, and he deeply believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Bob was a devoted father and grandfather who cherished time spent with his family. He proudly raised three daughters alongside Judy Cook (former wife), considering them his greatest accomplishments. He then married Carol Nowakowski who preceded him in death. Later in life, he found love again with Shelia Cook, whom he married on February 25, 2012. With their union, he gained another daughter and embraced their blended family wholeheartedly. His zest for life extended beyond work and family. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson, boating, hunting at the cabin up north with friends and enjoying good food and drinks. Football Sundays were special to him—especially when spent watching games with his best friend Steve Slezinski. Known for his humor and kindness, Bob had a knack for pulling out neighborhood kids’ loose teeth—earning him the playful nickname "The Dentist." He loved telling jokes and making people smile. Despite facing serious medical challenges in recent years, Bob remained resilient and courageous. His strength and positive spirit never wavered, inspiring those around him. Bob is survived by his beloved wife Sheila Cook; daughters Tina Surgener, Amber (Dave) Berger, Holly (Daniel) Hendershot, and Shannon (Demar) McClain; siblings Theresa (Jeff) Ronan, Tim (Kathy) Cook, Pat Kramer, Kris Williams and Lisa (Sonny) Lee; grandchildren Ryleigh, Jody (Katelin), Graysen, Allysse, Teagan, Lana, Ashlynn, Olivea, Colin, Jachai, Adrien; as well as many cherished friends and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Amanda Cook; parents Robert Cook and Mary "Jean" Cook; brother John Cook; and late wife Dr. Carol Nowakowski. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025 at 12:00pm (Noon) at St. Christopher Catholic Church - 1000 Michigan Ave., Marysville. Father James F. Arwady will officiate. Visiting will be from 11:00am until time of mass. A luncheon will follow at 1:15pm Bob wished to be remembered as a loving father and grandfather who treasured his family above all else. He often shared words of wisdom that reflected his outlook on life: -"Happiness is a choice." - "Misery loves company." - "Screw it—let's ride." May Bob’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
