Ricky E. Hunter

A beloved father, husband, grandfather, son, brother and friend, Ricky Hunter of St. Clair, Michigan, passed away the morning of March 3, 2025 at the age of 71. Ricky was kind and caring, with a quiet confidence and work ethic that made him what he will be remembered as: a great man. He could fix and tile a shower just as easily as he could fix a day with one of his legendary hugs. He was a quiet man who chose his words carefully, which made it all the more impactful when he did have something to say. If he was talking, it was wise to listen. Ricky graduated from Detroit Cass Tech in 1972. After graduating he spent his time oscillating between working numerous odd jobs and driving cars down the sidewalks of downtown Detroit with his buddies. (True story and frankly one of the more tame stories of his youth he would tell us. One time in high school he and his buddies somehow put the car of a disliked high school teacher onto the top floor of Cass Tech. The old Cass Tech that was eight stories tall) After a little bit of growing up he met the love of his life, Carolyn, and a few months later they were married. They spent 47 years together, raised three boys and collected a lifetime of memories before Carolyn’s death in 2020. Ricky finally found his professional home in land surveying. He was a respected surveyor for decades working his way up to a point where could really enjoy the fruits of his labor. The Great Recession threw a wrench into those plans and Ricky spent two years running a CNC machine (He had no experience doing it but was great at it. A common theme for him.) before eventually landing in the electrical industry where he helped build wind farms and substations for Motor City Electric. There he was a valued and respected employee until the day his illness rendered him unable to work anymore. In addition to Carolyn, Ricky was preceded in death by his parents; Mitchell and Shirley Hunter, Hunter family friend, Veronica Myers, his in-laws Phil and Bernice Chinzi, his brother-in-law, Tim McCabe, and his sister-in-law, Margaret Chinzi. He is survived by his three sons; Rory, Kenny and Wil, three daughters-in-law; Randi, Aimee, and Ericka, and his seven perfect grandchildren. Ricky is also survived by his sister and three brothers, as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, dozens of nieces and nephews, and so many friends. The family asks in lieu of gifts, please send donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in his and Carolyn’s name. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 10:00am in the St. Paul of Tarsus Church – 41300 Romeo Plank, Clinton Township. The visitation will begin at 9:30am.
