In Loving Memory of Rickey Neely January 31, 1958 – June 11, 2026 After a long and courageous battle, our beloved Rick passed away on June 11, 2026. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in celebrating a life defined by faith, strength, loyalty, perseverance, and love. Rickey was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 31, 1958, to the late Ellis and Carlene Neely. Although his given name was Rickey, he preferred to be called "Rick" and was known by that name throughout his life by family, friends, and those who knew him best. He was the youngest son among six brothers and four sisters. As the youngest boy in the family, he shared a special bond with his mother and remained very close to her until her passing when he was just 12 years old. Rick also shared a special bond with his sister Emma. After the loss of their mother, they became even closer. Later in life, they became roommates and remained a source of comfort, support, and companionship to one another throughout the years. He loved her dearly, and she loved him just as much. Rick was raised in the Baptist church, where he accepted Christ at an early age and developed a strong foundation of faith that remained with him throughout his life. His faith helped shape the kind, respectful, and gentle spirit for which he became known. Though not easily angered, he was firm in his convictions, independent, determined, and always knew exactly what he wanted. As a child and young man, Rick enjoyed riding his bike, running, exercising, lifting weights, and spending time outdoors. Staying active was something he enjoyed throughout all of his life. He attended school in Wayne County and later graduated from Henry Ford High School. Shortly after graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country with honor. After returning home, he started a family and welcomed his three sons, Nathaniel, Adrian, and Andreas. Rick dedicated 18 years of service to MST Steel Company, where he held a leadership position and carried out his responsibilities with professionalism, dedication, and pride. He was known as a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and doing his job well. Years later, he met the love of his life, Brandy. Together they built a life filled with love, devotion, and resilience and were blessed with their daughter, Ayla. Rick loved his family deeply and cherished the time he spent with those he loved most. Before cancer entered his life, many people were surprised to learn Rick's age. He looked years younger than he was and had the energy to match. Whether he was working, exercising, riding his bike, or staying active around the house, he rarely slowed down. His strength, determination, and youthful spirit were part of what made him who he was. Over the last year and a half, Rick faced the fight of his life. Even when cancer was taking over his body, he refused to give up. He would make himself get up and go to the gym. He was even caught outside shoveling snow while wearing his chemotherapy pump. No matter how difficult things became, he kept pushing forward and trying to live life on his own terms. Rick was stubborn, determined, strong-willed, and a fighter until the very end. He was also a private man, but he was always present for the people he loved. He wasn't the loudest person in the room. He showed his love by simply being there. Through the good times, the hard times, and all the ordinary days in between, he could always be counted on. He was a proud Army veteran, a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He loved his family deeply. Rick wasn't always the most outwardly affectionate person, but those closest to him never questioned his love. They saw it in his loyalty, his presence, and his willingness to show up when it mattered most. And when it came to Brandy and Ayla, there was never any doubt how much he loved them. When Brandy was struggling with addiction and trying to rebuild her life, Rick stood beside her. He loved her, believed in her, and supported her as she found her way out of the darkness. Years later, when cancer took away his ability to care for himself, she considered it an honor to care for him and advocate for him when he could no longer do it himself. That was the kind of love they shared. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Rick is no longer suffering. The cancer and its many complications took so much from him. The pain became unbearable, his mobility became limited, and his quality of life was no longer what he deserved. Knowing he is finally free from pain brings peace to those who love him. We like to imagine him whole again. Free from hospitals, treatments, appointments, and suffering. Riding his bike to the gym, smiling, and enjoying all the fried chicken, sweet potato pie, and banana pudding he could ever want. Rick leaves behind his loving wife, Brandy; his daughter, Ayla; his sons, Nathaniel, Adrian, and Andreas; his stepson, Markice; several beloved grandchildren; his siblings Emma, Rose, Melvin, and Ellis Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory. The family would like to thank everyone who prayed for Rick, supported him, and stood beside them throughout this difficult journey. Your kindness, love, and support will never be forgotten. Please keep our family, especially Ayla, in your thoughts and prayers as we learn to navigate this tremendous loss. Rick fought harder than anyone we have ever known. His strength, courage, faith, and love will remain with us always. Until we meet again, Rick, we love you and will carry your memory in our hearts forever. Celebration of Life Family and friends are invited to join us as we celebrate and remember Rick's life on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Eagles Club, 2645 Howard Street, Port Huron, Michigan 48060. July 10th held special meaning for Rick and Brandy, as it was their wedding anniversary. It is fitting that on this day we gather not only to remember his life, but also to celebrate the love, family, and memories they built together. The gathering will include a time of remembrance and prayer, followed by an opportunity for family and friends to share memories and stories of Rick. Food and fellowship will follow as we come together to celebrate the man we knew and loved. All who knew Rick, as well as those who wish to support his family during this difficult time, are warmly welcome to attend. There is no formal dress code. We invite everyone to come as they are and help us celebrate the life and memory of Rick. To help us plan appropriately for food and seating, we kindly ask that you RSVP if possible.
