Richard K. Barnwell

On the evening of September 2, 2022, Richard “Dick” Barnwell, surrounded by his children, passed away quickly and peacefully. He was 87 years old. In 1935, Dick was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late William Barnwell and Vivian Stuart. He was the eldest of three children. During Dick’s early childhood, he suffered a lengthy illness that went uncured by medical professionals of the time. After watching him suffer and miss out on aspects of his childhood, his parents turned towards God for healing. Relying on faith, his father drove him to Ohio to visit Father Solanus Casey. Dick received a blessing from Father Solanus and shortly thereafter fully recovered. Father Solanus Casey has since been Beatified. Dick spent his life in the car business. Beginning his career as a porter, he worked his way up to a salesman and eventually worked as a buyer. The only thing Dick loved more than cars was his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Rumor has it that he enjoyed cleaning his bike just as much as riding it. He and his beloved wife, Geraldine “Gerrie” Barnwell, spent much of their free time riding through the state and country - and to be honest - many trips to the casino. Anyone who knew Dick knew he loved the casino and playing the lottery. There is no doubt that Gerrie met him at the gates of Heaven with his motorcycle, and now they are young riding through paradise. Dick was blessed with three biological children and four step-children. He is survived by his brother William “Bill” (Sandra) Barnwell, his children Deborah (Paul) Guswiler, Michael Barnwell and Kimberly Barnwell, his step-children Lynn Fries, Tracie Kiewicz, Roberta (Dan) Wagner, his grandchildren Rhea (Phil) Kozlowski, Joshua (Nicole) Guswiler, Joseph Guswiler, Kyle Watts, Klaudia (Matt) Vorwerk, Caroline Barnwell, Stephanie Stavrou (Cole Clifton), Tristen Barnwell, Reese Wagner, Grayson Wagner, and great-grandchildren Braydon Kozlowski, Owen Kozlowski, Kylie Kozlowski, Ava Guswiler, Liam Kozlowski, Max Guswiler, Camden Kozlowski and Jack Guswiler. Dick was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gerrie Barnwell, his sister Marlene Wolfbauer, his parents; William Barnwell and Vivian Stuart, and step-son Rick Watts.
