Phillip D. Folson Sr.

Phillip Duane Folson Sr, was born on September 28, 1951 to William Folson Jr. and Lovie Lee Webster in Clinton Twp. Michigan. The family moved to New Haven, where Phillip has been a resident for over 60 years. Phillip attended the New Haven School System and graduated in 1969. While in high school, Phillip was very active, he played trumpet in the band, ran track, basketball, and football for the Rockets! He also attended the Upward Bound Program at Eastern Michigan University. Phillip married Lauren K. Bankhead on April 2, 1971 from that union they had three children; Lori A Folson, Phillip D Folson Jr. and Forrest W. Folson. Phillip worked for Lionel Trains, NBD Bank and Safie Specialty Foods, retiring in 2009. During his time in New Haven, Phillip served the community as President of the New Haven School Board, 1987-1988, also served on the Lenox Twp. Planning Commission 1987-1988. Phillip also coached the New Haven Little League in 1981, when his father was no longer able to coach. Phillip has been a faithful member of the Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church for 53 years. Phillip loved singing and has been singing in every choir the church had or has had, Mass Choir, Young Adult Choir, Senior Choir, and the Male Choir. Phillip also sang with numerous choirs throughout Macomb and Wayne Counties. Phillip was an avid sports fan and enjoyed them all along with fishing and traveling with his wife and family. Phillip leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 49 years, Lauren, children; Phillip D. Folson Jr. (Elona) of Rosamond, Ca., Forrest W. Folson (Erica) of Clay Twp MI, sister, Carolyn Folson-Clifton of Greensboro, NC., brothers; William Folson III of Ray Twp. MI, Frederick Folson (Irma) of Hapeville, GA, Ronald Folson (Elizabeth) of New Haven MI, four grandchildren; Nicole R. Folson-Eckles, Bryce W. Folson, Cassius W. Folson and Ermias B. Folson, and great granddaughter, Harper R. Folson-Eckles. Along with eights sisters- in-law and two brothers- in-law, a host of uncles and aunts, numerous nephews and nieces and special friends; Dea and SIS Thelma Daniels, Ira & Pearl Barnes, Sandy & Karen Kincaid, and Brett & Suzette Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Lori A Folson and three brothers; Keith, Sidney and Lance Folson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 12:00pm (Noon) in the Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church - 58527 Delanie, New Haven. Visiting will be from 11:00am until time of service. Reverend John Mack will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday, March 12, 2021 from 1:00pm until 7:00pm in the Jowett Funeral Home - 57737 Gratiot, New Haven. Burial will be in Centennial Cemetery.
