Mrs. Orpha "Dotty" O'Brien

Orpha “Dottie” O’Brien, age 80, of Burtchville Township, passed away on March 28, 2016, in the Blue Water Hospice Home, in Marysville, following a courageous 3 year battle with lung cancer. She was born on August 13, 1935, in Wales Township, to the late Lawrence and Imogene Carr. She married Leo O’Brien on October 16, 1954, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, in Emmett. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Leo O’Brien, son, Douglas (Karen) O’Brien of Port Huron, daughters; Kelly (Joe) Peace of Oakridge, TN, and Dr. Jean (Dave) Petershack of San Antonio, TX., grandchildren; Kristine (Terry) Stalker, Jeanette (Brian) Dossin, Joseph (Janet) Peace, Gregory, Matthew, Declan, and Claire Petershack, great grandchildren, Nicholas and Emily Stalker, Jase and Brayden Dossin, Brandon, Eric, Tyler, and Kayden Peace, half-sister, Karen (Marvin) Westfall, step-sisters; Audra Scribner and Marilyn Phillips, sisters-in-law; Kate Cone and Joan O’Brien. Dottie was a member of St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church. She enjoyed making large meals, and baking her famous fruit cakes and cookies. She loved children, after her own were grown, she spent 20 years at the Appletree Academy, in Jensen Beach, Florida, caring for and loving others little ones. She was a kind and gentle woman and beloved by all she met, especially, the wonderful medical staff, who eased her final journey. The family would like to thank, Dr. Alsawa and his kind staff, Beacon Home Care,and Blue Water Hospice, in home and in their home, for their wonderful care, especially Nicole from Beacon and Kara and Mindy from hospice, as they became close friends. She was preceded in death by her step mother, Elizabeth Carr, brothers-in-law, Jim (Irene), Tom, Maurice (Wilma), Jack, William, Dennis (Margaret) O’Brien. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, August 26, 2016, at 11:00am, in the St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church, Lakeport. Father Lee Acervo will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00am until time of mass. Inurnment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery Columbarium.
