Olen W. Hayes

Olen Wayne Hayes, age 90 of Port Huron Township, passed away on Friday May 15, 2026 with his family by his side. He was born on August 25,1935 in Arkansas. Olen was the son of the late Chuck and Edra Hayes. His family moved to Michigan when he was an infant. He married Darla Fulmer on March 29, 1958. They had two children, daughter, Kelli and a son, Scott Hayes. Olen was a veteran who honorably served in the United States Army and was stationed in Nyack, New Jersey-AAA Missile Battalion Station, where he protected the bridges, docks, and the harbor of New York City, during the Korea Cold War Conflict (1954 to 1957). Olen retired from the City of Port Huron Fire Department as a Lieutenant after 27 years in 1992. On his days off, he worked in the loss prevention department at Sears. After retirement, he and Darla traveled to all the states, mostly in their motorhome. They spent 28 years as snowbirds in Florida. He enjoyed playing golf two to three times per week and they were very active and involved in activities there. They were also a member of the First Presbyterian Church, for over 50 years. Olen is survived by his wife, Darla of sixty-eight years, his daughter, Kelli, his son, Scott, three grandchildren, Alyssa (Josh) Young, Natalie (CJ) Quichocho, and Nick Hayes, five great grandchildren, Kai, Cora, Isla, Sonny Quichocho and Laine Young, his sister, Hazel (Rex) Petersen, brother, Lonnie (Bonnie) Hayes and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Mouser and his brothers, Acey, Harold, Gilmer, and David Hayes. Special thanks to McLaren Hospice nurses, aides and staff for their love and home care. Also, the family would like to extend a special thank you to Terri Randall for all her help and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made to McLaren Hospice, Blue Water Hospice, First Presbyterian Church or a charity of donor’s choice. A memorial service will be held on Friday - May 29, 2026 at 12:00pm (noon) in the Jowett Funeral Home - 1634 Lapeer Ave., Port Huron. Reverend Kathy Tessin of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. The visitation will be from 11:00am until time of service at Noon. The will be a luncheon following the service in the Jowett Funeral Home Reception Center. Jowett Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Hayes Family.
