Mary M. Jenks

Mary Melissa Jenks was born October 2nd, 1947 in Mount Clemens, Michigan. After a long battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully in her home on May 9th surrounded by family. Outside of a brief move to California, Mary lived her entire life and raised her family in the Village of New Haven. She was very active in the community and schools. She was employed for over 25 years at the New Haven Community Schools in various roles, an advisor to numerous classes, and was selected to be Grand Marshall of the New Haven Homecoming Parade. Within the community, Mary volunteered for the Fireman’s Auxiliary, the New Haven Food Pantry, Athletic Boosters, Bingo and the Community Dinner. She also served on the Village Council as Trustee. She was a pillar of the community. Mary loved to travel with her husband Mike around the country. In the winter, she would escape to her home in Arizona for Razer rides in the desert and shopping trips to Mexico. In the summer, she liked to head north to her home in Caseville for day trips to the beach, cookouts and campfires. She enjoyed cruises with her friends as well as camping trips in the RV to Silver Lake, Vermont, Maine and many other places. Mary cherished every moment spent with friends, family and grandkids. They were always welcome to come visit. She would greet them with a big smile, provide a meal and give them a place to sleep. Mary was a caring person that helped to raise her grandkids and other family members, and looked after her sister Connie when their mother passed away. She was like a second mother to many of her children's friends. Mary had a heart of gold that can never be replaced. She will be missed by all who knew her. She married Michael D. Jenks, on April 18, 1975, in New Haven. She is survived by her husband, Michael, children; Terri Mikolowski, Charles Gauthier, Jr., Christine (Daniel) Scarlotta, Stephanie (Kenneth) Carter, and Michael D. Jenks, Jr., grandchildren; Melissa Mikolowski, Miles Mikolowski, Rachael Gauthier, Taylor Gauthier, Angelina Scarlotta, Daniel Scarlotta, Chase Carter, Tessa Carter, Finn Carter, Dylan Jenks, Ryan Jenks, and Tristan Jenks, siblings, Diane (George) Frye, Robert (Diane) Churchill, Jerry (Melidee) Churchill, Timothy Churchil, and Brian Churchill, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; Clarence and Fairee Churchill, siblings; Connie Churchill, and Thomas E. Churchill, and sister-in-law, Tracey Churchill. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am, on Friday, May 15, 2020, in Centennial Cemetery, New Haven. Pastor Warren Hood will officiate. Visiting hours will be 1:30pm – 8:00pm, on Thursday, May 14, 2020, in Jowett Funeral Home – 57737 Gratiot, New Haven. Pallbearers are Daniel Scarlotta, Sr., Daniel Scarlotta, Jr., Tristan Jenks, Miles Mikolowski, Kenneth Carter, Chase Carter, Brian Churchill, Charles Gauthier, and Bill Bronikowski. In lieu of flowers, the family has setup a Mary M. Jenks Memorial Scholarship fund.
