Mary Alice Ashford

Mary Alice Ashford, age 93, of Port Huron passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2021. She was born on June 13, 1927 in Port Huron to the late James Arthur and Lola (Walker) Battle. She married Daniel Ashford in 1985 in Port Huron. Daniel preceded Mary in death 1997. She was the last of eight children. Mary leaves to mourn eight children of her own, four sons, John T. Bankston Jr. of Georgia, Douglas J. Bankston of Tennessee, Myron W. Bankston and Robert L. Bankston both of Port Huron, four daughters, Marilyn and Lesley Dupree, Carolyn L. Butler, Audrea R. Bankston all of Port Huron and Ila June Bankston of Georgia. Twenty-one grandchildren and forty-five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one son, Willie E. Bankston (Mudd), four brothers, James, Robert, William and Samuel Battle along with three sisters, Tolitha, Helen and Ellen Mae Battle. Mary loved her family and her children. She attended All Nation Redemption Center for over 31 years, under the leadership of Superintendent Vincent and Missionary Cheryl Mathews, Sr. She also served on the Mothers’ Board for many years. Mary’s prayer for her family was that she wanted all of her children to be saved. Mother Mary A. Ashford was a God-fearing woman with a lot of wisdom and knowledge along with many talents. At anytime you could find her singing “His Eyes are on the Sparrow, Precious Lord and Down through the years God has been good to her.” She will be missed by all that encountered her. Mary would want all of us to hold on to God’s unchanging hand. The family would like to thank and acknowledge Dawn Shimkus for her unconditional and outstanding level of care and love for our mother. Private family services will take place 12:00pm Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at All Nations Church of God in Christ, 2030 Church Street, Port Huron. Superintendent Vincent Mathews Sr. will officiate. Burial to take place at Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Visiting hours will be from 10:00am until the time of the private service at 12:00pm in the church.
