Joseph E. Trudell

Joseph Edward Trudell, age 75, passed away on Friday. September 4, 2026, at the Blue Water Hospice Home. He bravely fought years of diabetes and Parkinsons. He was born September 10, 1950, in St. Clair. He was the seventh child out of nine of Stanley and Ruth Schutt Trudell. He married Diana Shobert on May 25, 1971. Joe graduated in 1968 from Marine City High School. Joe was awarded State Co-Champion in Sit-Ups at the “High School Youth Physical Fitness Program” put on by the Marine Corp. After high school, he started working at the Ford Axle Plant on Van Dyke, which he retired from in 2000, with thirty years of service. In 1970, he got drafted in the US Army during the Vietnam Era, after basic training, served in Okinawa, later finishing in the Army Reserves. One of Joe’s biggest passions in life was being on or in the water of the St. Clair River, where he grew up a half a block away. When you didn’t know where he was, you knew where to find him. He was an avid fisherman in the river or Lake St. Clair where the perch were. As a kid, he often would go night fishing and sleep down there. Joe always had bait because he would go out at night crawling for it and took his kids when they were old enough. Another past time was playing Euchre which he learned at a young age. When his Grandma Schutt came for a visit, she would grab any available kid to sit down and play. She taught us all. Joe is survived by his wife, Diana, daughter, Dawn (Ken) Schmidt and son, Joe Jr., sisters, Donna Allen of Alaska, Dorothy Smith of Algonac, and Kay (Gerald) DeSnyder of East China, brother, Terry Trudell of Algonac, sister-in-law, Annette Trudell of East China. He was preceded in death by his infant grandson, Joshua, parents, brothers, Bill, Bob (Susan), sisters, Eileen (Gus) Mann, Penny (Brian) Herrington, and brother-in-law, Maynard Smith. A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion, 1300 Clinton Street, St. Clair on Friday, September 25, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:15 am with a service to follow beginning at 11:00 am. The St. Clair County Honor Guard will be in attendance.
