Mr. James E. Reid

Mr. James E. Reid, 77, of North Street, passed away on August 8, 2013 in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on March 20, 1936 in Detroit, son of the late Earl and Minnie Reid and his stepmother, Hilda preceded him in death. James married Shirley J. Major on March 17, 1956 in Lincoln Park. He was a proud member of Operating Engineers Local 324 for 40 years. James was an avid hunter. He enjoyed cutting, splitting and stacking wood to provide warmth and comfort for his home. Jim also enjoyed restoring his dads John Deere Tractor and a 1968 Jeep pickup. Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley of North Street; son and daughter-in-law, James Earl (Kristin) Reid Jr. of Elk River, Minnesota; daughter and son-in-law, Arline (Robert) May of Smiths Creek; daughter, Deborah Shepley of Port Huron; seven grandchildren: Tanya, Melissa, Andrea, Robert Jr., Lucas, Katy and Nicholas; eight great-grandchildren: Makayla, Olivia, Hannah, Alexis, Ryan, Reilly, Madelyn and a great-grandson on the way; brother and sister-in-law, Bruce (Cheryl) Reid of AZ; sister, Ruth Reid of Port Huron; brother, Earl Reid of St. Helen; brother and sister-in-law, Larry (Marion) Reid of Port Sanilac; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia (Vance) Upper of Port Sanilac; brother, William Reid of Port Sanilac; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce (Mike) Reed of Smiths Creek; sister-in-law, Beverly Culter of Marysville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard (Sandy) Major of Cadilac, MI; several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Teddy. He is preceded in death by a son-in-law, James A. Shepley on July 26, 2011 and a sister, Charlotte Mink. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th Street, Port Huron. The Rev. Max Amstutz will officiate. Burial will be in Kinney Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Friday 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Robert May Jr., Lucas James Reid, Nicholas James Shepley, Josh Fisher, Charles Wahls and Gary Cooper. Memorial tributes may be made to the Blue Water Area Humane Society.
