James A. Kouri

James Anthony Kouri February 7, 1951 – May 24, 2024. James Anthony Kouri, known fondly as Jim, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 7, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, Jim was the beloved son of Thomas and Mary Kouri and the eldest of their six children; Bob Kouri, Charlene (Bob) Tobolski, John (Paula) Kouri, Richard Kouri, and predeceased by, Paul (Sue Kouri). Jim graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1969. He had a passion for cars that began in his youth and stayed with him throughout his life. He loved working on cars and racing them, spending countless hours with friends on automotive projects. Jim was not only a car enthusiast but also a master electrician. He dedicated 18 years of service to the UAW and Cape Industries, earning a reputation as the ultimate handyman. His skills and willingness to help made him the go-to person for any and every problem. On December 4, 1993, Jim married the love of his life, Cheryl and together they built a blended family that became his pride and joy. Jim is survived by his devoted wife, his two stepdaughters, Christine and Tracy, and his two children, Anna and Anthony. His legacy also includes 11 cherished grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life. Despite his tough exterior and thick skin, Jim had a heart of gold when it came to his family. His wife and children were his soft spot. He never missed a soccer game, a school function, or an opportunity to stay up late helping with homework. His unwavering support and dedication to his family were the hallmarks of his character. Jim's passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew him. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched, the cars he loved, and the family he cherished above all else. While we mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing that his pain and suffering are finally over. Jim is now reunited with his loved ones who passed before him and is in the best place possible, embraced by God's love and care. A mass to celebrate Jim's life will be held at Holy Innocents St. Barnabas Church on May 28 at 11am followed by a luncheon at Lakeland Manor at 12:30pm.
