Esther K. Knights

With saddened hearts, the family of Esther Kathleen Knights announce her passing at Medilodge of Port Huron, MI on October 4th, 2024 with her daughter-in-law Christine by her side. Esther was born to her late parents Lorraine and John Haynes on September 18, 1947 in Lawndale, NC. She was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She received her high school diploma in 1978 and went straight to James Martin Nursing School in Philadelphia. She also earned a degree in Business Administration at the Wharton School of Business. For more than 30 years she worked in Nursing, primarily Geriatric Nursing. Her degree in Business helped her move into Medical Research in the latter part of her career. She retired from Sanofi-Winthrop Pharmaceutical where she served as project lead for cancer studies on both U.S. and French teams. She never missed an opportunity to talk about her career which brought her great joy and an extreme sense of accomplishment. After retiring she met Mr. Elijah Charles Stallworth which took her to Alabama where she enjoyed long walks in the park and joy rides with a cup of coffee or a strawberry milkshake from Dairy Queen. She liked what she liked!!! A woman of faith, Esther attended Highpoint Baptist Church in Eight Mile, AL. She never met a person she couldn't carry a conversation with about anything. No matter the length. She was a talker. Our mother loved beautiful things and she spent much of her free time shopping with her sister at TJ Maxx, Marshalls and John Wanamaker department stores. Later on in life she enjoyed thrift stores and flea markets. She always enjoyed listening to live music and you could always catch her humming the little ditties quietly to herself. Esther Knights is survived by: her daughter Dr. Catharine Long-Allen (Vincent), son Warren C Knights II (Christine), and daughter Melissa Knights Munaco (Salvatore). Grandchildren: Phillip B Haynes Knights, Darryl Long II, Nicolai Long, Anthony Long, Amber Long, Marquez Rodriguez, Matthew Nutt and Mia Munaco. Great Grandchildren: N'dia Maddox, Christopher Haynes Knights, Kamani Haynes Knights, Melody, Ariana, Sawyer, Zoe, and Josiah Long, Maddox and Alaiya Rodriguez. Brother and Sisters: Michael Haynes, Lillian Williams, Linda Martin and Lorraine Haynes. Esther is preceded by her sister Joyce Morse and brother John Haynes. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to your local Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
