Edward T. Breslin Jr.

On Wednesday, March 24, 2021, Edward T. Breslin Jr., loving and devoted husband and proud brother/uncle, passed away peacefully at home at age 62. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Sr., and his mother, Jenny. Ed was born on March 6, 1959 in Detroit, Michigan. He was raised in Dearborn Heights, Michigan and graduated from Riverside High School. Ed attended Michigan State University where he studied Telecommunications. He graduated from Specs Howard School of Broadcasting Arts and spent 20+ years working in radio markets in Frankfort (WBNZ), Lansing (WJIM), Detroit (WWJ) and Port Huron (WHLS). Over his broadcast career he was especially proud to have interviewed the Navy’s Blue Angels and astronaut Alan Shepard. He was a member of the Lansing Press Corps covering Michigan governors Jim Blanchard and John Engler and was honored to have attended numerous gatherings at the Governor’s Mansion. Ed expanded on his media expertise by moving into Public Relations serving the Port Huron and Brandon school districts over 14 years. He served in various roles, including Community Education / Information Services Coordinator and Supervisor of Administrative Services. He was most proud of the work he did as Suspensions and Expulsions Officer, where he advocated on behalf of students for fair and just outcomes. Ed believed everyone makes mistakes and everyone deserves a second chance. Years later, in a grocery store check out lane, a grateful mother told him that he had turned her son’s life around and saved his life. He was a member of the St. Clair County prescription drug abuse task force, a member of the United Way of St. Clair County Campaign Special Gifts Division, and a volunteer for the American Red Cross and Salvation Army. He was also a member of the Port Huron Moose Club. In 1986, at 27 years old, Ed was diagnosed with a rare testicular cancer and was given a 25% chance of survival. He entered a clinical trial for the drug Cisplatin at Michigan State University. With support of his family, he was the only participant to make it through the aggressive treatment and was the only one to survive more than 5 years. His family and friends were blessed to have Ed in their lives for an additional 35 years. On February 14, 2006, Ed married Charlyn Langolf and they spent 15 wonderful years together. Ed had a passion for all things Michigan State University, barbecuing, music (especially Ted Nugent and the Blues), dancing, being outdoors, gardening, camping and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Ed had a unique gift for connecting with others. He was known for his quick wit, his big blue eyes, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He was a gentle soul with a loving heart who touched everyone who knew him, including all the neighborhood kids who loved and respected “Mr. Ed”. Ed’s legacy of giving will continue posthumously, as his dying wish was to donate his body to Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine for anatomical study, thereby providing a most unique and caring gift for generations to come. During his last days, Ed mentioned he was looking forward to spending time at the Rainbow Bridge reconnecting with his beloved dogs Ebony, Spock, Seiko, Sheba, Ginger and Luci. He is survived by his wife Charlyn Breslin; his sisters Mary Breslin, Colleen (Dan) Cappelletty, and Tricia (David) Kapcoe; nephews Brian (Tifani) Sadek, Justin (Kiersten) Cappelletty, Adam Cappelletty, Kyle (Ashley) Cappelletty; great nieces and nephews Mika and Tate Sadek, Isabella and Allison Cappelletty, and Ella and Everly Deaton. A celebration of Ed’s life, or as he would say, a par-tay, will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Michigan Humane Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or the Michigan State University Division of Human Anatomy. Go Green!
