Mr. Derrick Lamont Walker

Derrick Lamont Walker, 50, of Port Huron Twp., passed away on February 12, 2014 in Medilodge of Port Huron. He was born on May 18, 1963 in Port Huron, son of the late Johnnie C. Walker and Maude O. Walker. Derrick graduated from Port Huron High School in 1982. He attended St. Clair County Community College for a brief period before attending the Port Huron School of Business in 1985 where he graduated with a degree in Data Processing and Accounting. He had been employed for various companies including the Kmart Corp., Citibank, Ameritech and he did contract work for Detroit Edison. Derrick was a devoted member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church under the Leadership of Rev. Anthony King, who was also a good friend. He loved spending time at the library and loved reading. He had a passion for cars, Chevy’s in particular and he had an interest in the Art of Stick Fighting. Derrick was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his life and purpose his siblings, Terrance C. Walker of Marysville; Gwen R. Walker of Lansing; Sally L. Griffin of Saginaw; aunts, Mary A. Walker of Port Huron; Willie Dell (Patrick) Royal of Faunsdale, AL; Delores Mays of Detroit; uncles, Dock Walker Jr. of Port Huron; Clarence Walker of Port Huron; Dan Royal of Faunsdale, AL; nephews: Casey (Rachell) Williams of Port Huron and Dock R. Walker of Marysville; great-nieces and nephews: Anthony Williams, Alexandra Williams, Julia Williams, Destinea Williams, Maximus Williams and Zechariah Williams. People helping the family through the rough times were special cousins: Johnnie and Dorothy Walker, Joseph and Carla Walker, Cornell Mays and Dexter and Helena Mays. Special friends: Frank Bubutz, Tricia Middleton, Caren Welch, Marilyn Moncrief and Kevin Burrell; spiritual advisor, Rev. Bobby Jones and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th Street, Port Huron. The Rev. Anthony King, pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Casey Williams, Keith Walker, Dock R. Walker, Mark Williams, Johnny Walker, JR., Brian Rounsoville.
