Delphine C. Star

Delphine C. Star, age 81, of Warren, was called by God, on February 5, 2018, to help with the beautiful gardens in Heaven. She was born on August 22, 1936, in Metz, near Alpena, daughter of the late James (Stanislaus) and Anastasia Lijewski. Delphine was raised by her family on a dairy/potato farm in Posen, with six siblings. After graduation, she moved in with her sister, in Detroit, where she met Walter M. Star. She married Walter on June 25, 1955, and settled down in Warren, raising five children. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She liked gardening, baking, cooking (specializing in Polish dishes and her famous cheesecake), and canning (making delicious organic strawberry jam). She enjoyed doing puzzles, crafts, embroidery and quilting. She enjoyed writing letters, reading, traveling, dancing, and the energy she received from the Motor City Casino. She fondly remembers her fun employment at Farmer Jack, Chatham and Meijer. She loved being outdoors and working in the garden and always instilled the message “Work is good for the soul and nourishes the mind”. Delphine loved all animals, although cats were her favorite. During retirement, she devoted her time in rescuing the cats in the neighborhood. She taught her children and grandchildren, that pets are happy and loyal creatures, that emit positive energy and unconditional love and that there is value in all of God’s creations. She also taught those around her to be content with little, to care about the right things, to practice generosity, to take care of those who can’t take care of themselves, and to remain honest. She is survived by her long-time companion, Frank Messina, children; Susan (Craig) Davis, Glen (Vickie) Star, Karen (Ron) Zemens, Mark (Mercy) Star, and Brenda (Michael) Colonna. Grandchildren; Clinton (Leanne), Curtis (Catherine), Megan (Daniel), Samantha (Austin), Andrew, Rachel, Russel (Nicole), Kristy, Stacie (Nana), Wendy (Michael), Breanna (Alex), Britany, Michael (Nina), Vincenzo, and Gabriella. Great grandchildren; Cole, Lincoln, Dale, Daniel, Christian, Molly, Mitchell, Austin, Alex, Lillie, Zoey, and Aryia and a sister, Blanche Szatkowski. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter M. Star, brothers and sisters; Victor, Edwin, Maryanne, Diane and Virginia. Though we miss her and wish she could be with us, we know she’s part of something so much bigger than we can even dream. Besides a big reunion, with family and friends, that she has not seen in a long time. She will be where music, laughter, and love are guaranteed. So she can sing, dance, and socialize, until her heart is content, in Heaven. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 10:00am in St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families – 12255 Frazho Road, Warren. Inurnment will be held on the same day at 2:30pm in the Great Lakes National Cemetery – 4200 Belford Road, Holly.
