David L. Albertson

David Lee Albertson, of Riley Twp., in St. Clair County MI, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at home surrounded by family. David was born November 10, 1956 in Mount Clemens, MI to the late John Carl (Jack) and Gwendolyn Ruth (Newman) Albertson. David graduated from L'Anse Creuse High School with the Class of 1975. David attended ITT Technical School for training, and worked for many years at Metro Cash Register Company in Detroit, owned and operated by his family. Later he ventured out into an over 31 year career with several Metro Detroit area waste companies, including Raska Disposal, City Environmental, Waste Management, Rizzo, GFL, and Priority Waste. On Labor Day weekend 1994, David was visiting his parents "Up North" playing lawn jarts in their front yard when a young lady walked by on her way to a yard sale. They struck up a conversation, and the next year David, and the former Monique "Kay" Niemeyer were married in Tawas City, MI. She survives, as does their only child, Austin Albertson, whose birth was his father's greatest joy in life. David was blessed to know two very special young ladies in his son's life, Elise Morgan, and the late April Millsap. David was the youngest of a family of four children, and he leaves behind his oldest sister, Mary Denison, who mourns his loss as the only surviving sibling. David's fondest memory growing up was his yearly camping trips with his family to Beausoleil Island in the Georgian Bay Islands National Park in Ontario, Canada. David shared a close relationship with his nieces and nephews, celebrating holidays, going on campouts, and other various events throughout the years. Surviving are nephews and nieces, Richard "Butch" (Misty) Denison, Linda (Joe) Woodruff, Carol "Angie" (Stacey) Wrate, Audrey (Jason) Gekeler, Connie (Michael) Garrett, April Albertson, Amanda (Matthew) Coblentz, and Maila Stark. David is also survived by his Mother-in-law, Judith Niemeyer, sisters in-law Nancy "Sharon" Ziembo (The late James Ziembo), and Barbara (Joseph) Stark. Great nieces and nephews, Destiny (Josh) Gruno, Tyler Denison, Caleb (Nicole) Gekeler, Dalton (Tami) Danielak, Ian Gekeler, Matrece (David) Troyer, Chloe Coblentz, Zoie Garrett, Braden Coblentz, Trinity Coblentz, and Alie Garrett. Great Great nieces and nephews, Gavin, Maci, Jerzy, Parker, Jessa, Jett, Jagger, Atlas, Judah, and many extended family and friends who knew him as "Uncle Dave". Also surviving is an aunt, Kathryn Brown, and many cousins and friends. When David was four years old he met his best friend Philip Burrus in a sandbox, and their close friendship lasted for 65 years. David also leaves behind childhood friend Rick (Mary) Peltier, and longtime friend Glen (Margie) Schmidtke. David had many friends made through his employment over the years, and all of them held a special place in his heart. David was also blessed by the many friends of his son who frequented his home over the years, and it was an honor watching them grow into the adults they are today. Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Albertson, sister, Ruth Jennings, nephew, Anthony Paul Wrate, Uncle, Richard Newman, Aunts, Dorothy Tormay, and Janet Leiter, father-in-law, James Niemeyer and several cousins. In his last days, David was comforted by the love of his Savior, Jesus Christ. David said, "I had a great life", and he thanked God for the time he was given. David was a hard worker, 60 hour work weeks were normal for him. For almost 30 years David survived many heart issues, including a quadruple bypass in 2009. He always got back up, and got back to work, and did so right up to the day before complications of Metastatic Melanoma forced him to give up working on January 4th of this year. Even then he held onto the hope that he could return to the job he loved. David's wishes were to be cremated, and his remains will be interred in the Grant Twp. Pioneer Cemetery, in Iosco County, alongside his parents, siblings, and nephew. A Celebration of David's life will be held on Saturday, March 07, 2026 at 1:00 p.m., at the American Legion Hall 34330 Bordman Rd., Memphis, Michigan 48041, with lunch to follow.
