Mr. Charles Patrick Cowley

Charles Patrick Cowley, 68, of Port Huron, passed away on April 19, 2015 after a yearlong battle with ALS. He was born September 22, 1946 in Port Huron, son of the late Charles A. Cowley and Mary Relken Cowley. Chuck married Janet A. McMartin on October 25, 1968 in Port Huron. He was a member of the last graduating class of St. Stephen’s High School in 1964. Chuck served our country honorably in the United States Army and spent the majority of his career working for Mary Maxim of Port Huron, retiring after 37 years as the Vice President of Operations. Chuck had a passion for athletics as a basketball player and softball player. He was an inductee to the Blue Water Area Sports Hall of Fame. He was a devoted Catholic at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church both as a parishioner and volunteer. He was also known for having the cleanest cars and best manicured lawn in town. Chuck took great pride in his work ethic but was the most proud of his grandchildren. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face more than boasting about their accomplishments. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Janet (McMartin) Cowley of Port Huron; daughter and son-in-law, Jill (Chuck) Russell of Port Huron; daughter and son-in-law, Jodi (Jeff) Brockitt of Port Huron; grandchildren: Justin and Jenna Russell, Kayla, Jeffery and Olivia Brockitt all of Port Huron and his great-grandson, Remy Ogilvie and grand dogs, Max and Sophie; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary (Robert) Sheehy of Marysville; Christine (Bill) Ketelhut of Port Huron; brother and sister-in-law, Mike (Jeanette) Cowley of Port Huron; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pete (Jan) McMartin of Prudenville, Michigan; sister-in-law, Barbara (Jeff) Henry of Hastings, Michigan and several nieces and nephews. Chuck is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Burel Lumpford. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 325 32nd Street, Port Huron. The Father Jeff Allan will officiate. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Jowett Funeral Home and Thursday 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to Holy Trinity Parish. A Rosary will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Veterans Honor Guard Alliance will conduct Military Honors.
