Andrew G. Golden

Andrew George Golden, age 92 of Casco, entered eternal rest in Clinton Township after an illness on Saturday, February 18, 2023. He was born on December 3, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Michael J. Golden and Elizabeth Josephine Golden (Pollack). He married Anna Louise Klink on June 3, 1950, they enjoyed many years together until her passing on January 2, 1991. He was preceded in death by his brothers Michael and Lawrence; brothers-in-law Bob and Jim; mother-in-law Dahlia Cannon; father-in-law Harold Klink and his good friends, John and Rosemary Mischel and Bernie Brewer. Andrew is survived by his and Ann’s six children: Lois Ann Golden, Michael Andrew Golden, Gary Alan Golden, Brian Patrick Golden (Pamela), Steven Jerome Golden and Wendy Marie Golden-Ziehm (John). Fourteen grandchildren; Melissa Marino, Michael Golden (Nicole), Mathew Golden (Lori), Amy Lang (Chris), Scott Lang (Bethany), Nicole Golden-Merkouris (Steve), Kristen Golden-Gurney (Ron), Brian Golden (Joeling), Chad Golden (Brenda), Ashley Golden, Nicole Ziehm-Edington (Don), Kevin Golden, Erica Ramanauskas (Alex) and Shawn Golden (Cara). Twenty-one great-grandchildren; Jaida, Zachary, Catlynn, Brandon, Breanna, Madlyn, Logan, Adalyne, Emily, Liam, Nevaeh, Wesley, Theodoros, Ian, Dean, Collin, Mila, Brooklynn, Mackenzie, Cali & Oliva. Andrew is also survived by his brother Joseph; sisters-in-law Lois, Delores and Janeile; brother-in-law Patrick as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, many friends including long-time friends Ken and Jan Valliencourt and the family of Lloyd Suess. Andrew welcomed the love he received from his previous daughters-in-law Joyce, Linda, Jeanne, Patti, Judy and sons-in-law, Christian and Paul. He appreciated his good neighbors Dick and Rita Neely as well as Dave and Sheila DeFauw. Andrew graduated from Pershing High School in the class of 1948. His career began in 1949 at the Royal Oak Wholesale Company as a woodworker. In 1950, Andrew was employed with the Osborne Transformer Corporation. In 1951 he earned a Certificate of Training from the Department of the U.S. Army for completing a course in Intermediate Practices and Techniques of the Sheet Metal Trade. There he learned how to fabricate and shear sheet metal and armor plate for the construction of Army tanks. In 1952, he was employed at Creative Industries of Detroit, an engineering and prototyping firm for the automotive industry. 1953-55 Andrew worked at Paramount Engineering Company. In 1956, Andrew was a Detailer for the American Motors Corporation, Special Products Division where he designed and built tail sections for the Martin copy of Canbarra aircraft. Andrew retired in 1987 after a 30-year career with Fisher Body/General Motors Corporation as a Layout Draftsman at the Tech Center in Warren. This extensive work history proved he was a very talented designer and when not at work, he was known as “Handy Andy” as he could fix just about anything. Andrew enjoyed gardening, holiday celebrations and family reunions at his and Ann’s homestead, “On Golden Pond” in Casco. Some of his many interests included reading, science, chemistry, inventors, music of the Big Band era, being a devout Catholic, pets and most of all, his family. He loved the comedy of Laurel & Hardy, Abbott & Costello, and Carol Burnett. His favorite television shows were Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and the Andy Griffith Show. His passion in recent years was receiving hugs on a regular basis from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; going for Sunday drives along the St. Clair River freighter watching and to the Blue Water Bridge where he’d enjoy “One Darn Good Hot Dog” from the “What The Fry” food truck, on the way home a final stop at the Achatz Handmade Pie Company in New Haven for an assortment of his favorite slices of Cannoli and Coconut Cream pie. Our family sincerely appreciates all the prayers and support received in recent weeks and going forward as we grieve the loss of a such a great man. As his grandson, Shawn, said “He left behind a legacy of kindness and warmth”. He will truly be missed by all. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 On Golden Pond.
